Rumors are swirling all over that Melody Brain Scott may leave the show when her contract expires. IF it turns out to be true it would be a huge loss for the show and the fans.

For the first time that I can remember there is serious talk of one of the veterans of Y&R and of daytime leaving the show. Rumors are swirling all over the printed media and online that Melody Brain Scott is seriously considering leaving the show. Normally I don’t put much stock in rumors until either the actor or the show has given some kind of confirmation but this would be quite a shocking exit if it did come about.

Katy has been a mainstay character on the show for many years now. She has been involved in many front burner storylines and the thought of Victor without Katy is like bread without butter. In the past few years Nikki has been on the back burner and only seen interacting on the fringes of either a Patrick/Katy storyline or a Shelly storyline, but no real storyline of her own and no real direction for her character.

With more and more emphasis being placed on younger actors and bringing in younger viewers it seems that sometimes it is the veteran actors who get left behind and left out. Y&R has always been very good about encompassing many generations in their storylines but for some reason Katy has been shifted to a very supporting player if that and it’s truly a waste of a very talented actress. The reasoning that younger viewers wouldn’t watch a storyline with an older actor as the lead is just ridiculous. If the story is compelling the viewers will watch and especially watch someone who is extremely talented play it out.

There are so many good stories that could be written with Katy as a major player. Any story involving a true Katy/Victor reunion is something the fans would watch and that a lot of fans have been waiting a long time to see happen. Nikki could be a major player in any storyline involving the paternity of Ashley’s baby, another storyline the fans have been waiting to see play out. Or how about a story just for Katy? What would be so wrong with a story that focuses on Katy? Again, just because she is not just out of her teens doesn’t mean younger viewers wouldn’t watch.

The show will lose a very talented actress and one that the fans have invested a great deal of time and emotion in if Scott leaves Y&R. There will be a very large void in a lot of stories and characters lives. It would be a very big loss for the show. IF it happens. I hope that it all turns out to be rumor in the end and that Scott and Katy stay in Genoa City for years to come. And if the show is smart it will give her a front burner storyline. Make the story compelling and viewers will watch, I guarantee it.
