Why do I Yawn During Exercise?

June 22nd, 2012

When I exercise, why do I yawn and get sleepy?
Answer:

This is a typical response and nothing to be concerned about.

When you start to exercise, blood flow, and the oxygen that it carries, is diverted from the major organs to the exercising muscles.

One of the organs getting less oxygen is the brain. Yawning is the body’s way of trying to increase the oxygen supply to the brain.

Exercise brain, exercise, oxygen
